This is a Monographic course so I highly recommend (if you haven't already done so) to take at least the basic course (Vol1) and the Character course (Vol 5) of Creative Writing. If, on the other hand, you start from already solid knowledge then I am waiting for you directly in the virtual classroom with this course which I will tell you about the Yellow Genre even considering that by now a clear definition between genres hardly exists anymore due to the increasingly frequent contamination of Genres and writing styles.
I will investigate the basic structure of a detective story in order to better identify it with its fundamental rules defined in detail by Inspector Philo Vance's father: Van Dine-Wright.
I will also tell you:
of "who solves the mystery";
Of the most important scene (Mother scene);
Who is the Detective (the investigator) and how to build it so that it is functional to the story itself;
Of the difference between CLUES and TRACES;
How the famous Suspense is created and how it can easily be augmented;
How the suspense changes between a tale and a novel;
Of the murder weapon and its power;
Of the difference between a Yellow and a Noir ... and much more.
Remember that in order to be an exceptional writer you need to be a fervent and avid reader of all genres first of all and then ... especially of your favorite genres or in short that you are most passionate about.
Seeing a lot of movies can also help especially when there is a lack of inspiration ... and speaking of the latter ... I always say this in my creative writing courses: the best inspirations are drawn from life, from experience, from going out and observing the world ... scrutinizing people ... being open to new experiences ... not having mental closures of any kind ... always being in the listening position ... mentally photographing what surrounds us ...
However, beyond the IDEA ... and that is what to write, consider that by now a lot has been written .... but what still distinguishes the great writers is the way they 'compose'.
Alain Robbe-Grillet stated: "THE TRUE WRITER HAS NOTHING TO SAY, WHAT MATTERS IS THE WAY IN WHICH HE SAYS IT".
